Participant Information Sheet: Research Capacity and Capability Survey

Title of Study: Evaluation of the research capability and culture of the health and care workforce across Cheshire and Merseyside (C&M)

You are being invited to take part in a survey. You do not have to take part if you do not want to. Please read the following information carefully and ask us if there is anything that is not clear or if you would like more information prior to deciding. Please take the time to decide whether or not you wish to take part. We do want to hear from everyone, across all healthcare professions and support services, including students whether or not you are already involved in research activities.

  1. What is the purpose of the survey?

This survey aims to understand the current research capacity and culture within health and care organisations across Cheshire and Merseyside.

​2. Why have I been invited to participate?

You have been invited to participate in this survey because of your role within a health and care organisation and/or higher education institute.

3. Do I have to take part?

No. It is up to you to decide whether to take part and you can ask questions about the research before deciding whether to take part . If you do, your submission of the completed online questionnaire will be considered your consent to participate. You are free to withdraw at any point during the data collection process. A decision to withdraw will not affect your rights but the questionnaires data will be anonymised and as such once submitted cannot be withdrawn as it is not possible to relate individual responses to a specific person.

4. Are there any potential risks in taking part?

There are no known individual risks involved in participating in this survey. All responses will be anonymous.

5. Are there any benefits in taking part?

The information collected from you will be used to examine the research capacity and culture within individual organisations and across different disciplines and sectors. This information can then be used to generate a baseline for health research capacity and culture across Cheshire and Merseyside with the aim of improving the research capability of individual health and care researchers and the overall health research capacity within Cheshire and Merseyside.

6. Payments, reimbursements of expenses or any other benefit or incentive for taking part

There will be no payment or any benefit or incentive for taking part in this survey.

7. What will happen to the information provided?

The information you provide as part of the study is the survey data.  All data obtained from you will be completely anonymised and as such will not be able to identify you. Once we have finished analysing thie survey data, we will keep some of the data so we can compare the results obtained with those from a repeat survey in 2 years’ time. The completed work will be disseminated in a report to the individual organisations and via journal publications and seminar/conference presentations by the investigators. 

8. Who is organising the survey?

This survey is organised by Liverpool John Moores University in collaboration with Liverpool Health Partners SPARK.

9. Whom do I contact if I have a concern about the survey or I wish to complain?

All data obtained from you will be completely anonymised and as such will not be able to identify you.

If you have a concern about any aspect of this, please contact Prof. Gillian Hutcheon or Dr Rachel Mullen and we will do our best to answer your query.  You should expect a reply within 10 working days.

10. Data Protection  

The data controller for this survey will be Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU). The LJMU Data Protection Office provides oversight of LJMU activities involving the processing of personal data, and can be contacted at secretariat@ljmu.ac.uk. This means that we are responsible for looking after your information and using it properly. LJMU’s Data Protection Officer can also be contacted at secretariat@ljmu.ac.uk. The University will process your personal data for the purpose of research. Research is a task that we perform in the public interest.  Your rights to access, change or move your information are limited, as we need to manage your information in specific ways in order for the research to be reliable and accurate. If you withdraw from the survey, we will keep the information about you that we have already obtained.
