The BHP Pilbara Education Partnership is seeking a dynamic, highly organised individual with well-developed interpersonal and relational skills to coordinate and liaise with interagency partners, families and schools to support the implementation of the Early Years aspect of the BHP Pilbara Education Partnership (the Partnership) 2021 to 2023.
The Early Years aspect focuses on a strengthened community-based approach to ensuring all students start school well prepared; implementing a well-coordinated approach to service delivery, intervention to address areas of concern for children aged 0 to 3 years and 4 to 8 years and support every child to be school ready by building capacity with families.
The Support Officer (Family Liaison Officer) will be required to report to and work with the Early Years Strategy Coordinator. They will form highly effective relationships with families, connecting them with interagency supports and intervention to ensure every child is school ready.
We are seeking an individual who has local contextual and cultural knowledge including an understanding of local organisations, corporations and service providers.

The position requires the capacity to work in collaboration with the Early Years Strategy Coordinator to achieve the project targets:
- Develop supportive links between the child, the family, the school, allied health services and other appropriate agencies in the community and establish a network of partnerships with other government and non-government agencies, ensuring intervention in health and education is supported by families.
- Actively participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings and case conferences for the Early Years Strategy as appropriate, including the provision of information and provide advice on Cultural connectedness.
- Assist in providing advice, including liaising with parents/guardians, students, staff and any other relevant parties.
- Record, collate and prepare information used to develop and monitor strategies and alternative programs.
The role will be based in South Hedland, with travel within the local area to support the initiatives within the Partnership a requirement of this position. Housing is not supplied as part of this position and potential applicants are requested to consider this prior to applying.
The position will commence at the start of Term 2, 2021. There will be an expectation that the successful applicant will participate in an induction, including Cultural Awareness, Department Code of Conduct, Accountability and Ethics, Record Keeping and Operational Procedures.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with children, families, agencies and community members.
- effective planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing prioritises within timelines.
- good research, conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to identify problems and provide solutions.
- skills and experience in working with children and families experiencing difficulties.
- knowledge of the early years sector, particularly local organisations and services.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
